HERA Barometer

In early 2009 and in response to the economic challenges, Universities UK and GuildHE, with support from government Ministers and HEFCE, produced a brochure ‘Standing together: universities helping business through the downturn’ that outlined some of the ways that HE can offer short and long-term help.  Subsequently HEFCE asked AUEE and all other Higher Education Regional Associations (HERA) to gather intelligence and to do some regional networking on behalf of their member institutions.  This work acts as a 'barometer' of prevailing conditions in the current economic climate.  It informs a periodic national report on how the HE sector is responding to assist the economy and society, during the economic downturn.  These reports are intended for government and other organisations with a stake in the HE sector and it highlights what is working on the ground, the barriers to effective response, and the sharing of good practice.
